Alumni Adventures

Save the Date - Saturday, September 18

Peggy will host a Journey Daybook Adventure at the Dakota Winery on an unusual Saturday so that more alumni may be able to attend. We will meet at 11 AM at the Winery at 14365 NW Highway 19, about 2 miles north of Chiefland FL. Be sure to bring a bag lunch. We will have a picnic in the grove.

The Small Boat Meet in Cedar Key

Peggy Herrick and Carol Pattillo will host this JDB Adventure on Saturday, May 1st. It is unusual to offer an alumni gathering over the weekend, but we decided to take advantage of the many small, handmade boats as subject matter for our pages. As usual, the Adventure will begin at 11 AM. Please bring a bag lunch, a wide-brimmed hat, and a chair. We will meet at the western end of Third Street at the waterfront by the Faraway Inn. If you are interested in drawing while paddling, kayaks will be provided. If you wish to draw boats and the water from land, you can work in the shade and enjoy the boats and their multicolored sails.

If you can join us, please call Peggy at 352.543.6127.

April and May Alumni Adventures

Tentatively, three more Adventures are scheduled for JDB members who have attended at least one retreat. These are: 16 April 2010 in Gainesville at the Tench Building, where artists rent studios from the City of Gainesville. Anne Seraphine is our hostess, and we will be making journey daybook pages inside from a posed model. Contact Anne if you wish to attend this Adventure.

The formal May Adventure will happen at the Florida Folk Life Festival in White Springs, FL on Friday the 28th.  If you have never been to this festival read about it at this link. Peggy is the hostess for this Adventure.

Usually, on the first weekend of May, there is a Small Boat Meet that occurs in the waters off Cedar Key. This meet is not formally organized, but in the many years it has occurred here, hundreds of small, exquisitely crafted sailboats have provided a ready seascape for painting and making journey daybook pages. I think that it would be wonderful to plan a Saturday outing to Cedar Key. We could eat lunch together and have our usual review in the afternoon. If Saturday is not good, we could gather at our usual Friday time.

Alumni Adventure at Rainbow Springs State Park

On Friday, 19 March, we will meet at the concession stand inside the park.

Summer Weekly Adventures Amended

At our Journey Daybook board meeting last week, it was decided to reschedule our Alumni Adventures to once-monthly outings. A specific journey daybook keeper will be in charge of each monthly excursion, and the plans for these excursions will be posted here. We made this change because so many people scatter during the summer, and it is difficult to gather people and organize journeys. Informal outings may continue to happen on Fridays. If you are interested in these, please contact Sue Reichert or Peggy Herrick.

Summer Weekly Adventures
