Upcoming Fall 2016 Introductory Retreat Invitation

September 6, 2016

Dear Friends:

I am writing to tell you about a Journey Daybook retreat to be held at Open Gate Retreat (opengateretreat.org) located in Williston, FL, on Friday, November 11 – Saturday, November 12, 2016.   This retreat is open to both newcomers and to our alums.

As you know, The Journey Daybook, Inc. is a non-profit educational cooperative that offers adventures, instruction, and service opportunities. If you haven’t visited our website recently, please check out the blog to see what Journey Daybook has been up to recently: www.journeydaybook.org.

This retreat will present the Journey Daybook concept and practice and is limited to 12 participants in addition to four instructors. The retreat’s focus is in the planning stages but previous retreats have focused on topics such as drawing and collage as applied to the Journey Daybook process. Each of us will have ample time to work individually; through group activities, instruction and sharing meals, we also will experience community. A chance to tour a nearby Greek Monastery on Friday afternoon will also be offered.

We will begin promptly at 10 am on Friday and close at 2 pm on Saturday. The fee for this 28-hour retreat is $125.00. The fee includes instruction and some supplies; a happy hour on Friday; four delicious meals prepared by Open Gate “Chef”/Retreat Owner, Hugh McFadden, (lunch and dinner on Friday and breakfast & lunch on Saturday); and accommodations in simply decorated, comfortable guest rooms, each having a shared bath. Open Gate is a non-smoking facility and no food, snacks or soda are permitted in the rooms. Wi-Fi is available.

There are 11 single guest rooms and 3 double guest rooms. The price is the same for single or double rooms. Single rooms will be given out in the order of payments received. After that, you will be placed in one of the double rooms, with a roommate. If you have a roommate preference, and would like to be assigned a double room, please include this information with your check. To register, your check for the full cost of the retreat is due by Saturday, October 1st. If after registering you need to cancel, you can obtain a full refund by notifying me before Friday, October 28th when I will notify Open Gate of our exact numbers. If you cancel after October 28th, I cannot guarantee a refund; I would first need to fill your space from a waiting list (if any).

You will receive a confirmation email after registering. In mid-October, you will receive   a list of suggested materials and more details about the retreat. As active journey daybookers, you probably already have all the material you will need; we will have our usual “store” at the retreat with some materials at reasonable cost.

We hope that you consider joining us for this retreat. Please send your registration to Patty Jett, Treasurer, PO Box 332, Cedar Key, FL 32625 no later than Saturday, October 1st; please make your check payable to Journey Daybook, Inc. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Warm regards,

Jean Michelson
