Recently, Mary, one of our board members, alerted us to this wonderful upcoming opportunity that seems to fit very well into our contemplative focus – 05

October 13-18, 2013, Marywood Retreat Center
Jacksonville, Florida
Icons are windows on a world that calls us to be still and rest in a place of thankfulness with God. Traditional icon writing is an ancient spiritual practice; an extraordinary prayer.
This retreat is for all skill levels, absolutely no experience necessary.

Mary Jane Miller, a full-time artist for over 30 years, currently lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she paints and teaches the lost art of Icon writing as a prayer form. Her understanding of spiritual symbology and her skill result in an experience that is deeply meditative as well as artistic. She teaches using traditional medium of egg tempera and gold leaf. www.sanmiguelicons.com

Sandy Reimer, an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, has over thirty years of experience in spiritual direction and discernment, contemplative prayer and leadership of small groups and retreats. Recently retired, she is now in private practice as a spiritual director in Gainesville, Florida. Her deep open spirituality and her feminist perspective guide her work. Sandy will offer opportunities for inclusive spiritual practice and reflection.

Marywood Retreat and Conference Center rests on the St. John’s River just minutes from Jacksonville and St.Augustine, Florida. Their 100 acres of beautiful tranquility, live oak trees, nature trails, dock on the river, labyrinth and chapel create an ideal setting for this retreat. Executive Chef Alan Mc Cully will prepare delicious and healthy buffet meals.
